British Rowing Sculling Festival set to return to Nottingham this August
Nottingham’s National Water Sports Centre will host the British Rowing Sculling Festival from 18 to 19 August
The Sculling Festival is a fun and competitive event that challenges a sculler’s technical skills, manoeuvrability and competency.
This unique event is run as an omnium over two days, with points from individual events contributing to the overall ranking of each sculler. It is open to all scullers that are registered members of a club affiliated to any Great Britain rowing body.
For the 2018 Sculling Festival, there will be a change in the events on offer with the introduction of a J16 category and prizes awarded for all categories within the two events:
- Main event, with prizes awarded in Senior, U23, J18 and J16 categories
- Beginners’ event (for those in their first year of the sport), with prizes awarded in Club, University, J18 and J16 categories
Chris Callow, Chairman of the British Rowing Sculling Festival Organising Committee, said: “Since the launch of the British Rowing Sculling Festival back in 2013 the Organising Committee’s goal has been to offer an event to help develop the technical competencies of scullers across the country. Each year we work hard to grow and develop the event, listening to feedback received from rowers and coaches who take part. That’s why, at this year’s regatta, we will see the introduction of a J16 category, as well as awarding prizes to all category winners in both the main and beginners’ event. We believe this will further improve the experience of the young and talented rowers taking part at the Sculling Festival.”
The Sculling Festival is a key part of the talent ID pathway to the England Rowing Team and GB Rowing Team, so provides an opportunity for ambitious rowers to test themselves against their peers and showcase their skills in front of high performance coaches.
Further information is available in the Notice of Regatta which has been published today here.
