Today marks 12 months to the start of the European Rowing Championships in Glasgow, where the GB Rowing Team will compete in front of a home crowd for the first time at an international regatta in over five years.

Rowing is part of Glasgow 2018, a multi-sport event that will see 11 days of world class action take place across the Scottish city next August.

GB’s rowers have enjoyed a successful season on the water, winning the World Rowing Cup series thanks to some strong performances across the three regattas, as well as winning four medals, including gold for Vicky Thornley, at the European Championships in May.

These regattas have been a build up to the World Rowing Championships in Sarasota-Bradenton, Florida, starting on 24 September.

Reigning world champion Callum McBrierty, from Edinburgh, said: “I’m looking forward to the opportunity to race in front of a British crowd, but especially in my home country where my friends and family can come and watch. The European Championships is one of the biggest events of the year for the GB team and we’re all looking forward to the great support of the British public.”

Tickets are selling out fast for what promises to be four fantastic days of rowing action at Strathclyde Country Park, between 2-5 August 2018. Be sure to snap up some seats to watch our rowers compete on home soil for the last time before the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

Olympic silver medallist in the women’s eight, Karen Bennett, added: “I can’t wait to compete in front of a home crowd at Strathclyde Park in 2018. The British public are fanatical about their sport and I’m looking forward to hearing the ‘Glasgow Roar’ as we row down the course in search of a European Championships medal. Be sure to buy your tickets now to be in the best seats to cheer us on next year.”

Tickets for the Glasgow 2018 European Championships will range from £10 to £55 and will be subject to availability – there is no application process or public ballot. Under 16s and over 60s will be among those who receive a 50 per cent concession.
