Director of Pathway Development appointed
We are pleased to announce the appointment of Rosie Mayglothling as our new Director of Pathway Development.
Rosie, an Olympic finalist, brings a wealth of rowing and sporting experience to the role following over 30 years working for and with high profile sporting organisations such as Sport England and the International Rowing Federation (FISA). The majority of her career has been spent dedicating her time to the development of rowing in this country, and has spent the past 14 years in her current role.
Rosie is currently the Technical and Coaching Co-ordinator for British Rowing, responsible for consistency with the technical aspects of the sport.
During her time at British Rowing she has overseen research and innovation within the GB Rowing Team and contributed significantly to the review process for the Team. Rosie has developed the curriculum content for coach education in British Rowing. She has recently produced a strategy for Coaching and Coach Education which defines the coaching Pathway from grass roots to High Performance and it is starting to be implemented. Beyond this pathway, Rosie is currently undergoing a research masters into sports development particularly looking at young people and women.
Rosie is an active coach educator and holds a number of qualifications within coaching. She has been an author to a number of rowing books, including her latest book ‘Rowing and Sculling’ a book designed to cover the key technical elements of the British Rowing technique. Internationally she holds significant weight and is currently the Chair of the Competitive Commission for FISA and sits on the FISA council. Within this role her aim is to increase the number and quality of competitors in all types of rowing and to provide advice to FISA on competitions and events. This role extends to training and supporting coaches in conjunction with the Development Department.
Rosie commented: “I am extremely excited to be taking up this new role within British Rowing particularly as the organisation embarks on its modernisation programme. As part of my current role, I have recognised the need for pathway development within the coaching community. Having experienced this need for pathways within other areas of our sport, it feels like a natural step to take on development of all participant pathways.”
Rosie continued: “With the varied participant base within our sport from coaches to volunteers to competitors, it is crucial that we are able to nurture and provide direction to those people to ensure a life-long involvement in rowing and I am excited to embrace this challenge. I am very much looking forward to working with Andy Parkinson and the team in 2016 and beyond.”

Her experience in the sport, subject area and knowledge of the sector will be of huge benefit to setting the future direction for this critical part of our business. It is also extremely pleasing to have completed the recruitment process for British Rowing’s new senior team. This is our last appointment and it will mean that we go into 2016 with high quality strategic leadership. I am really looking forward to 2016 and seeing what we, as a team, will achieve.”
