A new rowing and canoeing facility in Slough is opening in May, the first of its kind in the region.

The Riverside Centre, based on the River Jubilee, will offer local residents the chance to try rowing and canoeing. Part of the CanRow project, a steering group which has been put together to encourage rowing and canoeing opportunities in Slough post the 2012 Olympic Games, this centre has been funded by British Rowing, Sport England and Slough Borough Council, amongst others.

A wide range of equipment will soon be available for all standards, and promises to inspire local residents to take up an oar and explore this previously unknown stretch of water. The centre will also contribute a huge amount to the culture of the city, hosting music nights, river tours, and is sure to be a general hub of activity.

Development Officer Chris Farrell describes it as “a fantastic project which has a lot to offer to the residents of Slough and the surrounding areas. It is a stretch of river that is unknown to the local people. Rowing and canoeing will fit right at home here.”

Regular taster sessions are open to all. They will take place every Wednesday morning from the beginning of February to the end of March, for more information please contact Jamie or Chris. Anyone and everyone is welcome!
