Rowing’s leading medics and scientists to convene in Marlow 22 – 25 January 2015

Sports scientists and medics are urged to sign up now to secure a place at the forthcoming conference for the world’s leading practitioners in the sport of Rowing.  

The conference, organised by British Rowing and FISA with support from UK Sport, runs from 22 to 25 January 2015, and is to be hosted at the UK Headquarters of SAS Software, British Rowing’s Official Analytics Partner.  The theme of the conference will be “Improving Performance Naturally – transferring sport science and medicine to boat speed.”

Delegates are invited to a dinner at the Great Hall in Bisham Abbey on the evening of Thursday 22 January with a talk from Dr Katherine Grainger, CBE.   SAS Software’s state-of-the-art headquarters in its iconic riverside setting is the venue for Friday and Saturday, with talks from world-leading researchers and practitioners across a variety of sport science and medicine disciplines.  Keynote speakers include:

  • Dr Richard Budgett OBE – Protecting the clean athlete, protecting health
  • Dr Alain Lacoste – Current issues within FISA and the medicine and science world
  • Professor Alison McGregor – Injury prevention and performance – are they mutually exclusive?
  • Dr James Morton – Increasing lean muscle mass
  • Professor Niels Secher – What we know makes the boat go faster from 40 years of research
  • Professor Sanjay Sharma – Endurance sport and cardio vascular health
  • Professor Jürgen Steinacker – Monitoring rowers and how to determine under- performance
  • Professor Mike Tipton – Training in extreme hot and cold
  • Dr Anders Vinther – Rib stress fractures
  • SAS Analytics – Using ‘big data’ to predict injury and illness

Finally, there is the opportunity for an optional visit to the Team GB Intensive Rehabilitation Unit in Bisham, led by Dr Anita Biswas and Dr Ann Redgrave.

The Delegate Fee of £250.00 covers:

  • Evening Reception/Dinner on Thursday evening
  • two full conference days on Friday and Saturday (including lunch and refreshments)
  • optional visit to the OMI on Sunday
  • transport between these venues and selected hotels.
