British Rowing appoints Marketing and Communications Director

British Rowing is pleased to announce the appointment of Ben Wyatt as Marketing and Communications Director. Wyatt joins British Rowing, the governing body of one of Great Britain’s most successful Olympic sports, in this newly created role with immediate effect.

The appointment comes following an impressive season on the water for the GB Rowing Team, culminating in an outstanding performance at the 2014 World Championships in Amsterdam, where the team won 10 medals: four Gold, four Silver and two Bronze.

Wyatt, an experienced marketer whose career includes five years’ service at energy drink Red Bull; the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) as Communications and Sponsorship Marketing Director and marketing agency WSM Communications as Head of Communications, will report to the Interim CEO of British Rowing, Neil Chugani. Wyatt will take responsibility for developing and implementing organisational-wide marketing and communications strategies and the day-to-day management in these key functional areas.

Neil Chugani, said: “We at British Rowing recognise the need for new organisation and resource to promote our sport, with a collective representation and vision. A vision that showcases and strengthens the grassroots of our sport as well as promotes the GB Rowing Team and the outstanding Olympic legacy for British sport that our international rowers strive to maintain and extend.

“We aspire to grow public awareness and profile of our sport, and the opportunities for anybody to enjoy the huge health, fitness and social benefits of rowing and to join our community of more than 200,000 people who row regularly all across the UK in all forms of the sport, outdoor and indoor.

“We are confident that creating this role is an important step in us realising these ambitions, and are delighted that someone of Ben’s background and experience is joining us to take on this new responsibility.”

Ben Wyatt said: “I am delighted to be joining British Rowing as Marketing and Communications Director at such an exciting time for the sport. Rowing has such a deep heritage of commitment and excellence in this country, highlighted by the record medal haul of the GB Rowing Team at London 2012, which provided such an inspiration for millions and for many newcomers to take up the sport.

“Success at the recent World Championships has underlined the high standards British Rowing sets itself and what is truly captivating is rowing’s ingrained culture of constant search for improvement. I am looking forward to supporting Neil and everyone at British Rowing as we build towards Rio 2016 and beyond.”
