Agecroft hosts inaugural GMIRC

Agecroft RC in Salford Quays, Manchester, hosted the inaugural Greater Manchester Indoor Rowing Championships on Sunday (September 14) – a successful new event for indoor rowing in the North West.

The competition was open to rowers and non-rowers alike, and comprised Open and age-based categories for both men and women (2km race distance), as well as a men’s Team Relay (3km).

The 35 competing rowers made for a great atmosphere and lots of friendly camaraderie, along with some serious indoor rowing.

Liam Sutcliffe claimed the men’s Open title, with a team from TRAIN Manchester winning the Team Relay event. The winners in the women’s races were Olivia Salt (Open), Lauren Roberts (over 30s) and Kari Joseph O’Driscoll (over 40s).

The championships provided an excellent opportunity for Agecroft to engage with local gyms and rowing clubs in a fun but competitive setting, and helped raise the profile of rowing as a sport.
