Record entry for 2014 JIRR

The 2014 Junior Inter Regional Regatta has attracted its largest number of entries ever, with practically every region entering a full team for Saturday’s Regatta. The annual contest sees all 10 British Rowing regions go head to head, split between 12 teams as Thames region is divided into three. Events are for crews from J14 – J16, across various boat types.

“It is fantastic to see such a strong entry for this year’s Regatta,” said Martin Humphrys, Chairman of the Regatta. “Particularly from some of the regions who have previously not been able to field a full team. A lot of effort goes into bringing the teams together and our thanks go to all involved from the regions.”

Racing will take place between 09:30 and 17:40 at the National Watersports Centre in Nottingham. In 2013, the Thames Upriver Team won all three trophies on offer (Overall, Boys and Girls) but it was very close at the top, and it is expected that many of the other regions will be challenging at the top of the podium this year.

“We are looking forward to a top day of racing,” added Regatta Secretary James Lee. “There is always a great atmosphere at the event and the Victor Ludorum often comes down to the last race”.
