Norfolk School Games

Held at the UEA Sportspark just outside Norfolk, indoor rowing featured on the last day of a five-day program as part of the Winter School Games. Teams from all eight local areas where represented at the event, with events for rowers from Year 7 up to Year 10.

The first race of the day saw a tight battle for second place between South Norfolk’s Katie Raggett and Norwich East’s Roise Beales in the Year 7 Girls race, which was held over two minutes. The two girls were never more than six meters apart in the race, but it was Katie who managed to hold on just by one meter after a late charge from Roise in the final 30 seconds.

The Year 7 Boys race proved equally close, with Toby Bernardin (North Norfolk) locked in a tight battle for the Bronze medal with Kieran Bedson (Norwich East). In much the same way as the Girls’ race, it was a late charge for the line from Kieran that put Toby under pressure, but he just ran out of time missing out by one meter for the Bronze medal.

The first two races of the day set the theme for the rest of the competition, with some very close battles running throughout the day. A number of competitors ended up tied for places outside of medal positions – showing the commitment that all competitors where putting on show to win the Team Trophy. In the end, the team from North Norfolk took that honour.
