Leicester and Rutland Games

Loughborough University played host to the Spring Leicester and Rutland School Games event for Under 14s and Under 16s and April 3rd, battling it out for individual and team trophies. The Under 14s (Year 9s) took to the race floor first in heats of 20 competitors, racing over 4 minutes. After warming up on the machines, the Year 9 girls set the event off with Issy Harrison putting in a well-paced race to hold off Anna Poulson and take the first victory of the day with 966m over 4 minutes.

In the second heat, a three-way battle developed for 2nd and 3rd place, with Jessica Hayrd, Liz White and Rue Nyaruwa all locked in very tight sprint for the line. With only 4m splitting the three girls, it was Rue who just took second place by one meter from Liz (934m), and Jessica just missing out with 932m.

After the individual events teams raced in two relay events with all results added together to form overall team champions from the day.
