Northamptonshire School Games

One of British Rowing’s pilot Watersport Hubs Schools, Prince William, took part in the event, competing against teams from around Northamptonshire at the Kettering Sport center.

Using British Rowing’s Gold Medal percentage system, rowers raced teams of peers from other schools in Key Stage 3 and KS 4 categories. Racing against other rowers in the same year group, results were then awarded based on gold medal percentages to compare Years 7 and 8 for the KS3 event, and Years 10 and 11 for the KS4 event.

In the individual races, the final standings saw a wide range of schools finishing on the podium in a number of events.

Topping the results table in the Year 7 events were two indoor rowers from Sponne School – Catrin Sinclair wining the Year 7 Girls’ race and Harry Cohen the Boys’. In the Year 8’s, Jaaziah Gordon-Douglas from Malcolm Arnold Academy took Girls’ gold, while Hayden Fitzsimons (Brooke Weston) topped the Boys rankings over three minutes. Northampton Academy’s Betheny Taylor took the Year 10 Girls’ title, while William Cardell took the Boys’ title for Prince William.

Watersport Hub School Prince William also took the Year 11 Girls’ event thanks to Laura Pakenam, while Sponne School’s Ed Penn held off team mate Colm Edwards by just one meter to take the Year 11 Boys’ title.
