Peterborough and Wycliffe Heads Cancelled

Head Races in Peterborough and Gloucestershire have been cancelled this weekend, owing to rising water levels and inclement weather conditions.

Peterborough City RC’s Head of Nene had been scheduled to take place on Saturday.

“Due to rising water levels and forecast strong winds The Committee has had to take the decision to cancel the Head of the Nene as conditions will not be safe for competitors,” the club said in a statement on

“This is a very difficult and upsetting decision for The Club to make and not one that was made lightly. Obviously everyone at Peterborough City Rowing Club is gutted but safety must come first.  The Committee will be in touch with clubs about refunds.”

The Wycliffe Big Head had also been scheduled to run on Saturday, but organisers have been forced to cancel the event owing to the forecast winds.
