The Wingfield Sculls 2013

GB’s top single scullers will be out in force on the River Thames today (October 8th), for the 173rd edition of the coveted Wingfield Sculls.

Fresh from the World Rowing Championships in South Korea, nine members of the GB Rowing Team will be in action on the Tideway – six in the women’s race and three in the men’s.

London 2012 gold medallist Sophie Hosking is the umpire for this year’s race, which will see the competing scullers take on the famous 4½ mile Championship Course between Putney and Mortlake.

In the women’s race, Gloucester RC’s Beth Rodford returns to defend her title against her five GB teammates; Frances Houghton, Vicky Meyer-Laker, Vicky Thornley, Imogen Walsh and Lou Reeve – who is making her Women’s Wingfields debut.

In the Men’s Wingfields, defending champion and London 2012 bronze medallist Alan Campbell will take on fellow GB Rowing Team single scullers Jonny Walton and Jamie Kirkwood.

Campbell will be looking for a fifth title at this year’s Wingfields, after previous victories in 2006, 2009, 2010 and 2012.

The women’s race begins at 1.30pm at Putney, with the men getting underway at 2.30pm. Find out who triumphs at www.britishrowing.org.
