Dudley Water Sports Centre to offer free rowing this weekend

Dudley Water Sports Centre is set to offer free rowing, sailing, swimming and triathlon this weekend, as well as reduced rate water skiing and wakeboarding to celebrate its 50th anniversary, a recent funding boost from the National Lottery, and the launch of a joint rowing initiative between the centre and Dudley Council.

The centre, based in Netherton, West Midlands, received £50,000 from Sport England’s Inspired Facilities fund, and has used the money to create new changing room facilities, a new training room and a sports teaching facility.

The Mayor of Dudley is set to pay a visit to the centre, which will open its doors on both Saturday and Sunday (7th and 8th September) to showcase its new setup.

“Our facilities are now excellent and the improvements are really helping us to attract more people to our club,” said Dave Smith, Club Chairman. “We really want to thank Sport England and the National Lottery for the investment that has made these improvements possible.”

The new initiative between the centre and Dudley Council will see rowing further developed in local schools over the next two years, and the creation of a new community rowing club based at the centre.

British Rowing will be at the open weekend on Saturday with a number of boats, offering free taster sessions in the sport. To reserve a place, please contact Chris Farrell: [email protected]. Places will also be available on the day.
