MKRC launches new Explore Rowing boats

Milton Keynes Rowing Club celebrated the arrival of three new stable boats at the weekend, opening its doors to a long waiting list of people wishing to learn to row.

With help from an Explore Rowing grant the club has significantly increased its fleet, recognising the hard work of key volunteers by naming the new boats after them.

After having a boat named after her, club coach Karen Wilson said “it’s a real honour, but I coach because I enjoy it. It’s great to see new people progressing.”

The day saw a Learn to Row group having their first outing on Caldecotte Lake, with World Rowing Junior Championships medallist Frankie Jus-Burke on hand to give an entertaining account of her rowing experiences. “Rowing offered me more than just a chance to compete at a high level,” said Frankie. “It’s opened many doors and given me friends for life.”

Milton Keynes RC offers a range of options for novice and experienced rowers alike. With a strong Learn to Row set-up, social rowing, and even challenges such as the recent Channel row it seems there is something for everyone at Milton Keynes.
