Worcester School Games

Bromsgrove school played host to the Worcester school games which included indoor rowing, as part of its summer games. Sam Myers a representative from the British Rowing Young People was on hand to help out with the event. Due to the smaller than average entry for this Year 8 event, all competitors got to race in a heat and final as well as in the 2012 relay race to crown the winners.

In the girls’ event, it was Megan Mellors of St Bedes School who set the pace, with 751meters in the three minute race. Megan’s result moved her into the 100+ gold medal time with 100.1%, setting an excellent marker for the high quality field competing. Just behind her in 2nd place was Zuzanna Suckorska with 747 meters, with the remainder of the field some 20 meters back.

In the boys’ event, it was Ben Hosker (Ipsley Middle School) who took the first place honours with 851 meters and a fantastic GMT of 105.1%. Ben’s dominant performance held off challenges from Matthew Walsh (Birchendale Middle) and Josh Rust (St Bedes Middle) who finished 2nd and 3rd respectively.

In the relay event, the team representing Redditch topped the results with and impressive time of 7:08.9 over the 2012 race, well ahead of Wyre Forest (7:50.6). But it was the battle for 3rd place with had the closest result, with Droitwich & Worcester City (7:59.4) just managing to hold of a late charge to the line from Worcestershire West who finished just two seconds behind as they crossed the finish line.
