Stratford enjoys sun-drenched Fun Regatta

More than 30 crews took part in this year’s Fun Regatta in Stratford, organised by Stratford upon Avon Boat Club.

Saturday started early for members of the West Midlands club, who busied themselves with the final preparations for their Fun Regatta. The boats were on the water, the bacon sizzling and soon the crews arrived.

“As soon as we saw the crews arrive, we knew that we were in for a great day!” Said Paul Hazelwood, Stratford Boat Club’s joint Fun Regatta Organiser. “Thirty one crews this year took part in four categories – experienced male; novice female; novice mixed and novice male. We’re already taking bookings for 2014!”

“Most of the teams had changed their corporate names and became ‘Slippery When Wet’, ‘Crab Catchers’, The Oarsome Foursome’ and ‘Riversvoir Dogs’ to name just the more polite ones!” added Nigel Harwood, joint Fun Regatta Organiser. “The ladies’ crews were even more imaginatively named: ‘Better Without Buoys’, ‘Girls Awash’ and ‘Birds In A Boat Mark Two’. It was great to see so many people enjoying themselves!”

“The weather was great and we had a lot of interest and crew members and the public signing up for our Explore Rowing courses continuing in the autumn,” said Jen Clements, Stratford Boat Club’s Captain. “Stratford Boat Club members worked very hard and the bar nearly ran dry in the hot weather!”
