Rowability at the World Rowing Cup

Para-rowing made its World Rowing Cup UK debut today (Friday), highlighting the rapid rise of rowing for people with a disability.

Thirty four para-rowers from around the world got their World Rowing Cup campaigns underway today, in Arms and Shoulders (AS) singles, Trunks and Arms (TA)mixed doubles, and Legs, Trunks and Arms (LTA) mixed fours.

For most, this will be their first time back rowing on Dorney’s famous waters since the record-breaking Paralympic Games last summer.

Domestically, the sport is going from strength to strength, with British Rowing holding its first ever National Adaptive Development Camp for rowers with disabilities in September 2012.

The hugely successful camp brought together elite rowers and newcomers to the sport, along with club and GB Rowing Team coaches, and there was even a visit from Team GB’s London 2012 Paralympians and gold medallists.

A second camp is planned for 6-8 September 2013 – for more information visit www.britishrowing.org/nprdc2013

British Rowing’s Rowability Project Officers, Maddie Millichap and Katherine Morris, will be on hand at the World Rowing Cup all weekend, showcasing the many and varied opportunities in rowing for people with disabilities at the British Rowing tent.

As well as hosting indoor rowing races for spectators of all ages and abilities, Maddie and Katherine will also be able to explain how you can get involved in para-rowing – whether you aspire to compete at the top level, or just want to get out on the water and enjoy the UK’s waterways.

The British Rowing tent is situated next to the bar and catering facilities, behind the River and Rowing Museum tent.
