Record Entry for 2013 Stratford Regatta

Stratford upon Avon Boat Club is gearing up to host a blockbuster BDR Stratford Regatta this weekend, after attracting a record number of crews.

“We are all amazed at the response we’ve had: a record 387 entries!” said Jo Wyles, Regatta Secretary. “After a lot of hard work from our regatta team, we’ve completed the draw and we’ll be having 43 events during the day with 284 races and 23 clubs competing. It’s going to be a busy, exciting day!”

The regatta will take place this Saturday (15th June) and racing will be from 8am through until 6pm. As well as Stratford crews including Stratford School, Kineton, King Edward The Sixth and Stratford Grammar School, there will be crews from AB Severn, Bedford School, Bishop Vesey Grammar School, Bradford on Avon, Canterbury Pilgrims, Cheltenham College, Evesham Boat Club, Kings School Worcester, Llandaff, Monkton Combe School, Northwick Rowing Club, Royal Grammar School Worcester, Ross Rowing Club, Stowe Sculling Club, Upton Rowing Club, Warwick Boat Club, Worcester Rowing Club and Cardiff & Vale Schools.

Racing will be from Holy Trinity Church to the Tramway Bridge. A great place to watch the rowing and action on the river is the Boat Club itself where there will be a barbecue from early morning until late into the evening together with a tea and beer tent. Bancroft Gardens, the Recreation Ground and the terrace of the Royal Shakespeare Theatre are also good places to take in the action.

Simon Picken, Stratford Boat Club’s Treasurer commented: “The draw for the racing took us considerable time trying to fit everyone in but we finally did it. We’re certain that everything will run like clockwork after all our preparation and that all our visitors and especially Stratford and Warwickshire residents will have a great day.”

“We’re all looking forward to welcoming our VIPs,” added Felix Badcock, the Club’s President, “including our own Gold Olympian James Roe and Olympic Games Makers and Torchbearers, but especially Stratford and Warwickshire visitors. We are also hope to have some of the architect’s plans on show for our redevelopment so that we can canvass views from Stratford residents and visitors. It’s going to be a great day for all.”
