UIRS2013 – can your University Club host an event?
November 16th 2013 will see the start of this year’s University Indoor Rowing Series – a national series of indoor rowing events for student rowers – and university clubs have until Friday 31st May to apply to host an event.
Last year’s event saw rowers of all ages and abilities take part in rowing events right across the UK, with more than 1600 competitors from over 50 different universities. The 2013 UIRS is expected to attract an even broader range of students.
Running from November 16th to December 1st 2013, organisers of the 2013 UIRS are now inviting university clubs to submit an application to host an event of their own.
Results across the series are collated on a national basis, and will be posted on the British Rowing website alongside the top three scores in a number of different categories. Results from eligible students will count towards the BUCS Indoor Rowing Championships.
Students participating in the GBRT first assessment at Boston and in the adaptive assessment at Caversham on 16th / 17th Nov will also be included in this year’s event – offering young rowers the opportunity to test themselves against the very best university indoor rowers.
UIRS events are a great way to provide a focus for new club members and freshers who join up in the October, and individual event organisers are encouraged to open up the events to others beyond the student rowing community – for example, other student sports clubs and members of the wider community.
