Dazzling Dorney hosts 2013 Wallingford Regatta

The 2013 Wallingford Regatta was a huge success on Sunday 5th May, thanks to perfect conditions at Dorney Lake.

The London 2012 rowing venue played host to 500 crews on the day, making it the biggest one-day regatta of the year.

There were no wins for the hosts on what turned out to be a fantastic day of well-organised racing, but promising performances from Wallingford RC’s scullers and juniors secured a number of second and third-placed finishes for the club – including two of the top three spots on the podium in the Women’s Elite Double Sculls.

Molesey Boat Club claimed the honour of Elite Eights Champions – the Thames-based club’s A crew beating Tideway Scullers School into second place with a time of five minutes and 49.22 seconds.

There was also a memorable victory for the Pangbourne College boys’ Intermediate 1 Coxless Four – overhauling the favourites from Vesta Rowing Club with 750m left to row in the final to win by a second.

“There was no way that any of the four boys in the crew were going to lose the race from that point on, such is their fitness, determination and teamwork” said Mark Woodcock, Pangbourne College’s Director of Rowing. “They are now Senior in status, just one step from elite.”
