Gig Club Celebrates New Boathouse

Flushing & Mylor Pilot Gig Club celebrated the opening of its new boathouse on 23rd March, with a champagne reception attended by local MP Sarah Newton.

The club’s members were out in force to celebrate the brand new facility, which has been built with the aid of a grant from Sport England’s Inspired Facilities fund.

Flushing & Mylor has bold plans for its new facility, having already been awarded an Explore Rowing stable boat package.

The club has also recently joined forces with Truro-Penwith College, and will offer term-time rowing for novices as well as developing an elite rowing academy for talented college rowers.

Through this partnership and its new Explore Rowing boats and boathouse, Flushing & Mylor aims to enhance the standard of fixed-seat rowing in the region – offering Learn to Row courses and increasing the number of qualified coaches.

“We are delighted to have been awarded this new facility,” said Club Chair Simon Thompson. “We look forward to introducing many more people to the sport of rowing.”
