County Durham School Games

The County Durham indoor schools Level 3 competition was held at Durham University’s Graham Sports Centre, Maiden Castle, where over 140 students from 16 schools took part in individual events for Year 7 all the way up to Years 12 and 13.

The event also included team events, which were raced over 1000m for Years 7 and 8 and 2000m for Years 9 and above – each team consisting of two boys and two girls.

The games were run with help from volunteers from Durham University, who helped to register and coach the juniors as well as setting up equipment and taking the winners on a coaching trip to experience Durham’s state of the art rowing tank.

All participants were also placed on an overall table using the ‘gold medal target’ time. 13 athletes managed to exceed the 100% medal target, with the highest being Rhianna Warren – a Year 9 student who pulled an impressive 104.8% GMT.
