Aberdeen gears up for Scottish University Boat Race
Students in Aberdeen are preparing for their annual grudge match this weekend – the Aberdeen Asset Management Universities’ Boat Race.
Aberdeen and Robert Gordon University will go head to head on Saturday (March 2nd) in one of the highlights of the Scottish rowing calendar.
Ingibjorg Thomsen is hoping to lead her Aberdeen crew to victory this year, after RGU triumphed by more than 14 seconds in the 2012 event.
“The crew is training at a maximum level, and we are confident that the trophy will be returned to Aberdeen University,” she said.
Last year’s race was only the fourth time in the event’s 18-year history that RGU took home the trophy, but Club President Rachel Joyce is confident that her 2013 crew is capable of making it two wins on the trot.
“The crew has been training extremely hard for weeks and I hope that this gives them the extra inch when it counts on the day,” she said. “The stakes are high for the 2013 race and we are determined to secure the title.”
The 2013 Aberdeen Boat Race will take place at 2.20pm on Saturday on the River Dee in Aberdeen, from the Bridge of Dee to Aberdeen Boat Club.
