British Rowing is delighted to announce further details of the new Rowing Leader training course, part of our Education & Training for coaches and rowers.

The course has been designed to meet the needs of rowers who wish to support the delivery of activity – especially of early learning rowing sessions – under the supervision of a qualified coach.

It will enable participants to understand the role of a rowing leader, conduct a basic risk assessment, explain basic rowing technique and be able to plan and deliver a rowing session under the supervision of a qualified coach.

The Rowing Leader course will be of particular interest to:

  • 16 to 18-year-olds who are existing rowers and who have rowed regularly for a minimum of one year,
  • Water sports instructors who have attended a minimum of British Rowing Learn to Row stages 1 and 2 and who hold other recognised water sports coaching qualifications,
  • Club rowers who have attended a minimum of British Rowing Learn to Row stages 1 and 2, or who are regular rowers with more than 12 months experience, or have attended Explore Rowing Assistant Training.

All participants on the Rowing Leader course must have participated in man overboard/capsize drill water rescue training at their club, and must hold a current British Rowing membership.

It is also recommended that participants attend first aid, emergency aid or CPR training.

The £120 course will last 16 hours, and may be run over two single days or as four four-hour sessions.

If you club or region is interested in hosting a Rowing Leader course, contact your Regional Team Leader for further information.
