Stratford prepares for Row for Gold Regatta

Rowing clubs from across the West Midlands will gather in Stratford this weekend, for the 2012 Stratford upon Avon Boat Club Regatta.

On Saturday 16th June, crews from Stratford upon Avon Boat Club will be joined by competitors and supporters from local clubs such as Evesham, Warwick, Ross and Worcester, as well as clubs from as far afield as Cardiff, Upper Thames, Penarth and Sutton Coldfield.

The Regatta, which was first held in 1879, will feature racing on the town stretch of the River Avon, alongside numerous attractions for spectators including a barbecue, beer and tea tent, and gondola displays by Oxford’s City Barge (pictured).

“We are really excited by massive response we have had this year,” said Jo Wyles, Stratford Boat Club Regatta Secretary. “140 crews form over fourteen clubs – well over 100 races during the day!”
