2012 Volunteer Awards – Coming Soon!

Nominations are set to open for the 2012 Volunteer Awards, with rowers up and down the country invited to recognise the volunteers that keep their clubs afloat.

Volunteers are the lifeblood of rowing – committing their time, energy, and endless enthusiasm all for the love of our sport.

Every rowing club depends on volunteers at some level – whether it’s making the crucial cups of tea after a lengthy winter training session, preparing enough food for ravenous rowers at a regatta, sweeping the floor of the boathouse or performing any of the many unseen duties that keep a rowing club ticking over.

The Volunteer Awards seek to highlight the remarkable commitment shown by these volunteers, celebrating their achievements and the crucial contribution they make to ensuring that rowing remains a sport that is truly on the up.

Nominations will be collected across each of British Rowing’s 11 regions, with a regional winner selected in each.

These winners will then be invited to an awards ceremony in London – our chance to publically recognise and thank volunteers from all over the UK.

In 2011, the Volunteer Awards saw British Rowing members across the UK recognised at an awards lunch held at the historic Watermen’s Hall in London.

The award citations saw recipients described as “the heart of the club”, “and exceptionally good ambassador for the sport” and “just the type of role model we need in rowing”.

Does that sound like someone at your club? If so, make sure they get the recognition they deserve this summer – nominate them in the 2012 Volunteer Awards.

Nominations will open next week (from Tuesday 8th May), on the British Rowing website. Paper nominations can be requested now by emailing [email protected].
