Local success for Wallingford Rowing Club

Wallingford Rowing Club was out in force again at the 2012 Abingdon Spring Head on Sunday 15th April, including some top performances from its junior and senior rowers.

The club had seven wins on the day including Alice Walker (pictured) who jointly won the W.J16.1x and the trophy for the fastest female junior sculler of the day alongside Castle Dore’s Newson (10 minutes and 30 seconds).

Wallingford’s veterans also had a successful day, winning the masters D and G.2x as well winning the masters G.8+.

Although the veterans didn’t have any competition in the masters F.8+ category, they finished the 2000m course with the fifth fastest time overall for the whole event.

Wallingford’s senior women also triumphed in the IM2.8+ and novice Katharine Tuite won the W.Nov.1x.

The last win for the club came from a mixed composite with Wallingford’s senior men and woman teaming up with Lorna Carter from Swansea University Rowing Club to win the Mx.IM1.4+.

The Abingdon Head of the River Race Challenge Cup – for the fastest crew on the day – went to Evesham RC’s IM3 coxless quad, who completed the course in seven minutes and 17.05 seconds. Evesham also contributed the fastest woman sculler of the event, and the fastest junior sculler.

Trophies for Fastest Women’s Crew, Fastest Junior Crew, and Fastest Sculler went to Upper Thames RC, Maidenhead RC, and Thames Valley Park respectively, with Christchurch RC’s W.J18.4x- winning the trophy for fastest Women’s Junior Crew.
