Northwest juniors compete at Manchester Velodrome

Close to 400 rowers competed in the 2012 Greater Manchester School Games Indoor Rowing event yesterday (27th March) at the Manchester Velodrome.

Races were held in both able-bodied and disability classes, for contestants aged between 11 and 16.

The first race of the day set a high standard, with Oakwood School’s James Kendal winning the Year 7 Boys’ MLD class by just  10 metres.

David Evans from Rumworth School, Bolton and Aaron Sheperd of Manor School Trafford could not be seperated for second place, sharing the silver medal and highlighting the competativeness of the entries.

One of the more emphatic victories of a tremendous day’s racing went to Michael Loram (Hollingworth, Rochdale) in the Year 10 Boys’, who put in a stunning performance to win the class by over 60 meters from Jacob Marsden (Fred Longworth,Wigan).

In the Girls’ events, Hollingworth B & E College dominated throughout the day. Elise Greenhalgh (Year 7 winner), Holly Coburn (Year 9 winner) and Holly Richardson (Year 10 winner) lead the way for Hollingworth, who claimed a clutch of other medals.
