Stratford launch new Explore Rowing singles

Stratford upon Avon Boat Club has taken delivery of two new Explore Rowing single sculls, specially designed for novices and recreational rowers.

Last year, Stratford Boat Club saw two Explore Rowing groups graduate from British Rowing’s Learn to Row course, which includes fifteen hours of rowing tuition – land and water-based – by Stratford Boat Club’s top coaches supplemented with British Rowing’s course material.

‘The arrival of the new single training sculls and some additional training doubles and quads has been timed to cope with the upcoming British Rowing Explore Rowing courses that will be held Stratford Boat Club and have already introduced many to rowing,’ said Andy Roe, British Rowing’s West Midlands Regional Development Coach. ‘We hope that they will continue rowing either on a recreational or even competitive basis. Our planned courses for 2012 are already heavily booked.’

The new Explore Rowing boats will enable Stratford BC to provide Learn to Row courses for more aspiring novices, as well as offering experienced rowers more opportunities to row for fun along the River Avon.

‘We are most grateful to The Town Trust and British Rowing for the grants to cover this expenditure,’ added Glyn Hawkins, Stratford Boat Club’s Masters’ Vice Captain. ‘The addition of these very stable and easy to use training boats is essential to the Club’s growth and ability to cope with additional adults wanting to row.’
