PLA announce temporary restrictions to Thames rowing
The Port of London Authority (PLA) has announced two months of restrictions to rowing on the River Thames Tideway, in the run up to the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee celebrations in June.
Ahead of the 1000-strong Thames Diamond Jubilee Pageant on June 3rd, marine services will lay two lines of mooring trots in Barn Elms Reach – from just upstream of Barn Elms Boat Club to the Harrods Depository near Hammersmith Bridge.
Work on the mooring trots is expected to begin on or around April 10th, with buoys set to be removed in the week following the pageant.
‘During the installation of the moorings and for the entire period that they are in place, fine boat rowers are not to row through the area,’ the PLA announced in a notice to mariners on February 14th.
All other rivers users are directed to ‘pass through the area with caution,’ navigating ‘with line astern if safely possible.’
