Ross juniors claim nine-medal haul in Cardiff

Ross Rowing Club Junior Academy made the short trip to Cardiff on Saturday 3rd December to compete in the Welsh Indoor Rowing Championships.

The thirteen-strong squad returned with nine medals (three gold, three silver and three bronze), having had a great day out in the Welsh Capital.

Gabby Howell won gold in the two minute event for J12 girls. In the three minute event for 13 year olds, Scarlett Brodholt won silver and Fran Watling bronze, with Adrienne Howell putting in a very competitive row too. Tom Scott won bronze in the boys J13 race.

Christina Stevenson was magnificent in winning gold from a thirteen-strong field in the J14 girls four minute race, Nick Burden was equally impressive in winning the J14 boys event with Matt Crilly putting in an admirable performance in his first ever indoor event. The J15 age group had to endure a full 5 minutes of racing and the Ross girls did very well, filling three of the top four places, with Hazel Thomas winning a silver medal, Catrin Morris a bronze and Jess Crossman finishing a close fourth.

In the J15 boys event, George Probert rowed himself to a stand-still to finish a very creditable fifth out of seventeen competitors. Finally Charlie Morris was hugely impressive in winning a silver medal over 2km in the J16 girls event.

Junior Captain Mark Scott was delighted with the squad’s performance commenting “everyone rowed their socks off and achieved some great results and we are all very proud of them. And most importantly we all had a great time too”.
