Grosvenor launches Explore Rowing fleet

[newsimage=0]Grosvenor Rowing Club officially launched its new fleet of Explore Rowing boats on Saturday, opening the door for more recreational rowers to take to the River Dee.

Grosvenor’s existing Explore Rowing squad counts rowers in their mid-20s to mid-80s among its number, and – with the help of their six new stable boats – the Chester club aims to attract a host of new recreational rowers to the river.

The club’s new boats include two coxed quads, two doubles, and two singles.

The boats – named Heron Bridge, The Wires, Eccleston Ferry, The Crook, Earls Eye, and Gypsy Hill; after key landmarks on the Dee – form part of a £16,000 funding package from Explore Rowing, enabling Grosvenor to expand its recreational rowing squads and Learn to Row courses.

‘The aim is to increase participation in the sport,’ Grosvenor explained on their website, ‘as part of our ongoing commitment to attract people to the sport of rowing, especially for those who don’t have the time and commitment needed to join a competitive squad.

‘Grosvenor Rowing Club welcomes new members of all abilities, with squads catering for complete beginners to experienced rowers and coxes. For the perfect Christmas present, or to work off those mince pies, why not try one of our regular Learn to Row courses for an eight week introduction to life on the water, with the next course starting on January 14.’
