BUCS PwC Indoor Rowing – second series gains momentum

During December 900 student rowers competed in the BUCS  Indoor Regional Rowing Series.  Now into its second year the series saw eleven well-attended events held at venues around the country from Edinburgh to Southampton.

All the events were run and organised by student clubs and many included a number of categories over and above the BUCS Championship events.  There were some strong beginner and team events on offer too, meaning that overall numbers may well have been even higher than 900 – and certainly well above numbers for 2010.

Each of the local organisers had the opportunity to tailor their events to meet local demand and many have had local press coverage afterwards.  A huge thanks and huge credit to all of those student clubs who organised the events and to the GB Rowing Team and British Rowing staff who helped support and mentor the organisers and who were able to help adjudicate on the day in some cases.

The Championship medallists were from all areas of the country, with rowers such as Graeme Thomas (Manchester) and Georgie Hazell (Reading) setting the pace in the men’s and women’s events. Ben Mitchell (Notts) and Gemma Hall (Newcastle) also showed excellent form, leading the way in the lightweight events.

Many of the competitors from the BUCS Indoor Series went on to the GB Rowing Team assessment in Boston at the weekend and again put in some excellent timings.

Congratulations to all involved.  For further details on the results check out the BUCS website
