Marlow schoolchildren to attempt 24-hour row
A school rowing club in Marlow is attempting to row for 24 hours non-stop to raise much-needed funds for a new boat and the Teenage Cancer Trust.
The Borlase Boat Club 24 Hour Rowing Rave is being held between 2pm Saturday 17th and 2pm Sunday 18th December 2011.
‘This is a fantastic, fun, team event that the whole club is supporting to raise money for a really worthy cause,’ said Robin Dowell, Director of Rowing. “We felt teenagers raising money for teenagers less fortunate than themselves, was a great match. It also helps us raise funds for new equipment to compete at a high level and achieve even more success for more committed children and young people keen to participate in rowing.”
Sir William Borlase’s Grammar School is one of only a handful of state schools across the country offering rowing as a sport, with two of their senior girls representing Great Britain last year and four senior boys breaking a course record at this year’s Henley Royal Regatta.
The club is entirely funded by donations and has doubled in size in the last five years. Parental donations cover the day-to-day running costs, but the club is in need of extra funds to purchase new equipment.
