Rowing volunteers hear from LOCOG

Volunteers for rowing at the London 2012 Olympic Games have begun to hear whether they are among the lucky ones selected to help out at Eton, Dorney next year.

Rowing volunteers are now among the 10,000 applicants who are being notified by the London 2012 Organising Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games (LOCOG) that, subject to the required security checks, they have been selected as a London 2012 Games Maker.

Don’t worry if you do not receive an offer today, it does not mean that your application has been overlooked. The process is being rolled out in stages, and there are still a number of people that have not completed an interview yet. Final offers cannot be made until they have successfully completed their interview.

Depending on the acceptance rate and the remaining interviews, LOCOG hopes to have offered and filled all of its rowing roles by the end of the year at the latest.

 ‘Given the numbers of people involved, conditional offers will be made in several stages and with interviews set to continue until the end of March 2012, there is still plenty of time for applications to progress,’ said LOGOC Chairman Lord Coe.

‘I wish everyone who offered us their time the best of luck with their application and encourage them to keep checking their email for updates.’

Successful Games Maker applicants have two weeks to respond to the conditional offer from LOCOG, to allow the organising committee time to conduct relevant background checks.

Unsuccessful applicants will start being notified in November 2011, with over 100,000 people due to be interviewed for the 70,000 Games Maker roles over the course of the programme.

‘The competition for places has been intense with considerable numbers of high quality candidates putting their names forward. The Games Makers will be integral to the success of the Games and in particular the impression we make upon the global sports family.’
