Rowing and sailing combine in Cornwall

Rowers at the Quay Sailing Club Regatta

On Sunday 28th August, Quay Sailing Club (QSC) hosted a brand new regatta, bringing rowers and sailors together for a fun day on the water at St. Germans, Cornwall.

QSC worked with British Rowing’s Regional Team Leader Rhiannon Halliday to create the new regatta, which was run by members of the sailing club and attended by Cornish Rowing Association (CRA) clubs Saltash, Polperro, and Calstock.

The aim of the event was to forge new links between QSC and the CRA, whose clubs use 18-foot ‘Flashboats’ and 15-foot ‘Skiffs’.

The regatta included six races for seniors and juniors, with the emphasis on taking part and having fun at the end of the rowing season.

QSC members provided food and prizes for the day, with Halliday and the CRA clubs’ volunteers running water-based activities.

‘I am extremely happy with the way this new event ran,’ Halliday said. ‘It seemed to generate a lot of interest from sailing club members regarding starting up a rowing section.

‘British Rowing is very keen to support any form of new activity which promotes participation in our sport.’
