Friday 5th March saw the annual National Junior Indoor Rowing Championships take place in the new state of the art sports facility in North East London – the Lee Valley Athletics Centre.

The venue was transformed to house 1670 competitors from across the country and 80 ergo machines. GB Rowers, Mark Hunter and Katherine Grainger, also made an appearance to help with the medal ceremonies and interact with the young aspiring rowers.

Further NJIRC information and competition results can be found on the London Youth Rowing website www.londonyouthrowing.com/events/njirc/.

Indoor Rowing is now a part of the secondary schools competition framework. British Rowing delivers an ‘Indoor Rowing for Young People’ (IR4YP) programme to help provide training for teachers on how to deliver high quality sessions using an indoor rowing machine.
