Team Hallin aims to break the world record for rowing the Atlantic

The East to West Transatlantic record is the ultimate prize in ocean rowing. The current record was set on the 3,000 miles or 2,600 nautical miles (5,200km) between the Canary Islands and Barbados. Team Hallin, lead by David Hosking (father of international lightweight, Sophie Hosking) aims to follow the same course and crack the record of 33 days and seven hours. The team of six hope to set off once the trade winds and currents have stabilised between December 2010 and January 2011.

The boat is called ‘Hallin’ and is a lightweight purpose-built fast ocean racing machine.  It has three sculling positions meaning that the oars will never stop moving for the entire month – each crew member will scull for 2 hours followed by two hours rest for the entirety of the voyage.  The Team’s prgress can be monitored by following the regular update of the satellite tracker on their website www.teamhallin.co.uk

The whole team is hoping to raise a significant amount of money for their chosen charity ‘Combat Stress’ – a charity that specialises in the care of British military veterans who have been profoundly traumatised by harrowing experiences during their Service career.
