Rowing is a hit with Spires Academy students

Spires Academy Rowing Club

Spires Academy Rowing Club took to the water for the first time on Wednesday 24th November, 2010. Students from Year 11 braved the freezing conditions to have their first opportunity in rowing boats. The two hour session was so popular that they asked to stay all day!

This was made possible because King’s School Canterbury have been very keen to support their local community and to give this opportunity to local state school students. Their Boat House Manager, Andy Turner, has been incredibly supportive and ensured that everything went smoothly on the day – greeting the students before giving them a short tour of the rowing facility.  Andy was very pleased to welcome the students and was impressed with their progress on the water, “It’s great to see them out in boats and enjoying themselves.”

It is hoped that there will be future sessions for other year groups in the Spring and that the partnership with Kings School will continue to flourish.
