A Win for Nottingham RC at Fours Head

News from Nottingham RC:

Nottingham RC entered an unprecedented number of crews for the 56th annual Fullers Head of the River Fours on the Thames in London.  Ten boats from the club joined more than 2000 rowers and 500 crews in total to compete over the four and a quarter mile championship course from Mortlake to Putney.

Conditions were far better than expected following a wet and windy lead up week. The club’s outstanding performance of the day came from the women’s high performance group coached by Dez Atkins. The crew, consisting of Pippa Whittaker (bow), Lindsay  Marshall (2), Vicky Meyer-Lake (3) and Nikki Spencer (stroke), were the first women’s boat home in a time of 19.52.71 – winning the Head of the River Pennant for quadruple sculls.

It is the first time that Nottingham RC women have won such an event and their success builds on from their four trophy haul at  Women’s Henley. The club hopes this latest triumph will help cement their reputation as the only women’s high performance centre north of the Thames.

Club President, Keith Atkinson, said “it was a tremendous result for the club and not only were they the first women’s boat home but they also took out a host of men’s crews too! All credit to them and their coach.”
