BBC Sports Personality of the Year Unsung Hero Awards

As part of the BBC 2010 Sports Personality of the Year event, the BBC is once again looking for a very special person working in sport.

Each year the BBC honours individuals from the grassroots of sport at the Sports Personality of the Year Awards through its Unsung Hero Award.  The award recognises people who go the extra mile to change the lives of others through sport and who deserve to be recognised for their selfless work on the part of others.

The BBC knows that there are many people within whose work deserves this recognition.  Nominees should be people who, on a voluntary basis, prepare facilities, coach the juniors, run local events or work behind the scenes so that sport can be enjoyed by people throughout the UK.

Nominations for the award can be made at www.bbc.co.uk/sportsunsunghero using a printable form. There is also a low-cost phone number you can call to request nomination forms – 03700 100 800 – which  are also available from BBC Local Radio stations and BBC Regional and National Centres.

The closing date for nominations Friday 29 October.
