As the Royal Hospital for Neuro-disability is in West Hill, Putney– a rowing Mecca of sorts – the organisers thought that rowing would be the ideal fundraising activity. But instead of being in the water, the event opted for ergos on the decks of HMS Belfast on the water! Essentially, teams of four will row in relay over a distance of 2000m, and less adept rowers can opt to pay a fee to have one of the Olympic athletes in their team. Each team member must pay £30 to register, which includes their admission on to the ship as well as a drink and light bites on the upper deck, and this fee is refundable if a fundraising target of £150 per rower is reached. The overall fundraising target is £20,000, and every penny raised will go towards providing the very best in assessment, care, therapy and treatment for the 240 profoundly neurologically disabled adults.
