Ten for Nottingham at Newark

The Newark Head of the River was rowed over 3,800m from Farndon to the town. The morning started with a heavy down- pour, followed by clear but blustery conditions which made for difficult steering on the course. Several boats ended up in bushes, trees and reeds along the riverbank.

Nottingham Rowing Club took a large contingent ranged right across the club from High Performance, Mens and Womens Squads, Juniors and Veterans. Sister club Nottingham Trent Úniversity were there in force too.

The first Nottingham crew home, who came third out of 200 entries, were an Intermediate 1 Quad, a joint venture with Newark, with two Newark lads rowing alongside Ed Fisher and Dominic Harrison. This combination tied with another Nottingham Intermediate 2 quad stroked by Nik Parnell. An Intermediate 1 Coxless four, with Ben Sibly from the Junior squad on board, was the next winning boat over the line.

• Matt Pomeroy (Nottingham Boy’s High) won J 16 double sculls. A
• Womens Senior Coxed four stroked by Rachel O’Sullivan won their event.
• Athelie Redwood-Brown won Women’s Elite sculls.
• Andreas Endruweit won Intermediate 1 sculls, again he had problems clashing with other boats.
• Steve and Graham Daw won Veteran E/F double sculls.
• Rachel Kugele won Women’s intermediate 2 sculls
• Bill Payne and Mike Collier brought the Head total to 10 and the winter total to 31 by winning the Veteran G/H double sculls.

It was a very good day for the Club.The High Performance group coached by Dez Atkins won 2, as did Martin Kay’s juniors, Dan Johnson’s seniors and the DIY Veterans. Nottingham Trent University also won Women’s Intermediate 3 coxed fours.
