Sefton Watersports Centre

Watersports in Merseyside took a major step forward when the Duke of Kent officially opened the £9m Crosby Adventure Centre in Sefton on 26th November. 

Visitors to Crosby Lakeside will be able to sample both indoor activities with a fully equipped fitness suite and fitness classes as well as a range of outdoor water pursuits including windsurfing, rowing and canoeing.

The new development, the latest edition to Sefton Council’s leisure centre portfolio, overlooks the Crosby waterfront.  It is ideally positioned for conferences, events and outdoor pursuits with a bar and bistro on the lower level that has outdoor decking overlooking the dunes and waterfront, available to both members and public visitors. There is accommodation on the first floor of the centre with more outdoor areas and views of the surrounding area, which is available for respite care and residential stays.

Duke of Kent opens the new centreEarly next year facilities will include a licensed bar, bistro, cafeteria, lodge accommodation, conference and social function suite, a range of watersports activities and a full programme of exciting activities for young and old alike.

The opening was attended by Di Ellis CBE, British Rowing Chairman along with coaches and young people from nearby Merchant Taylors School Boat Club.  The Chairman said “this is an extremely exciting facility which could expand and change the face of Rowing in this area.” 

British Rowing also co-ordinated indoor rowing races for children visiting.  Simon Dickie, Youth and Community Manager explained that the site “offers tremendous possibilities to develop rowing, we are receiving great support from Sefton Council to establish an effective indoor and water based rowing programme..”
