Indoor Rowing: everyone is practising for the Norfolk county finals

The eight Norfolk school sports partnerships have been selecting and training their Year 7, Year 8 and Years 12 and 13 teams for the county’s Indoor Rowing Finals, taking place at the University of East Anglia Sportspark on Wednsday 9th December. Who will be the winning team: Breckland, East Norfolk, North Norfolk, Norwich City,  Norwich East, South Norfolk, West Norfolk or West Norwich and Dereham?

Run by Norfolk’s competition managers with guidance from British Rowing’s community sports coach in Norwich, David Wynne, the County Finals are a counterpart to the very successful Partnership Games  – featuring 14 and Under and 16 and Under teams – and the Active Norfolk Youth Games for the special schools, which took place earlier in the year. The special schools will also have invitation races at the County Finals.

The County Finals and the Partnership Games are great incentives for pupils to improve their indoor rowing by regular training and coaching in lunchtime and after school clubs and so to get more fitness and fun from the ergo.

As this year’s Partnership Games showed, technique and performance are getting better throughout the participating schools so the competition will be intense this time.
