School Indoor Rowing in South Yorkshire

After a recent explosion of interest in indoor rowing it was decided to hold several small indoor competitions. With the help of competition managers and Links staff there were separate competitions held in Sheffield and Doncaster for the any students who wanted to enter.

These local events were a huge success with over 12 schools participating with feedback being very positive. It was great to the students getting behind each other in supporting the school and to see sixth form students cheering on the Year 7’s and vice versa. There was the real feeling of camaraderie. At the Doncaster regional event GB Olympic Gold medallist Ben Hunt-Davis attended to show his support of the event and was on hand to present the winners with their medals.

After the local successes of the competitions the decision was made to hold a South Yorkshire Regional Schools Indoor Rowing Competition. Doncaster Rowing Club kindly offered to host the event and provide the equipment. The event was organised and run by the club with the help of Joe Foss and Eddie Bryant, ARA coaches in the region, and Links staff. The event saw over 200 rowers from 12 different schools in the region compete and again the atmosphere at the club was loud and electric during the event.

The success of these events will hopefully lead to future events being palnned in the region.

For more information please contact your local schools competition managers.
