Ross Junior Academy Boys Strike Gold at Birmingham

After many years of domination, the Junior Academy at Birmingham Regatta on Saturday 25th April were won by boys crews.

This was the first regional regatta for the season for the Junior Academy Development Squad and it has got off to a strong start. The winning crews were:

Nick Burden J11 single sculls, Johan Lai , Gregory Fitz – Horswell  J12 double sculls (div 1), Dale Kernot , George Probert J12 Double sculls,  Johan Lai, Gregory Fitz – Horswell, George Probert,  Nick Burden Rhodri Morris (Cox) J12 quads and Jack Jones and Charley Green J14 double sculls.  The girls were not out of the medals completely as Megan Jephcote, Catrin Morris, Jess Crossman Rosie Ingam – Zoe Smith (cox) picked up a silver in the j12 quads.

Ross had 15 difference crews over the event and for most it was there first time at a competitive event and all distinguished themselves very well in the challenging conditions provided by the Edgbaston Reservoir.

One senior crew attended. The Mens Novice four consisting of Tim Crossman, Dave Morris, Lenny Colling, Andrew Leeman with Jess Crossman coxing, acquitted themselves very well in their first event, gaining valuable race experience.

Junior Captain John Lewis commented: "For our first squad regatta I am delighted with the approach and application of the development squad. The quality of oarsmanship and support for each other throughout the day was a credit the Club, we are looking forward to next week where squad is looking to build on its success at Evesham and Wallingford Regattas.
