Coaching Conference Day 1

[img_assist|nid=2639|title=|desc=|link=none|align=right|width=150|height=225]The first day of the 2009 coaching conference will come to a close tonight with an after dinner speech from John West, coach of the Olympic Men’s Eight.

The day began with talks from Steve Gunn and Professor Greg Whyte on athlete pathways giving us an insight into how the World Class Start programme works.  Unfortunately due to illness Gordon Burton was unable to attend but Loretta Williams was an able deputy discussing ways to develop coaches.

Before the group broke for lunch Gary Harris, deputy chairman of the ARA, presented the winners of this year’s Coach of the Year Awards with their certificates.

In the afternoon a series of workshops were held before Jurgen Grobler delivered a review of the 2008 Olympics which kept the audience enthralled.

[img_assist|nid=2640|title=|desc=|link=none|align=left|width=250|height=167]Tomorrow promises another interesting day with talks from Olympians, Acer Nethercott and Caroline O’Connor, and also the first ever Paralympic rowing champion, Helene Raynsford.

If you couldn’t make the conference this year, don’t despair,  the presentations will be available on RowHow straight after the conference and video highlights will be added in the next few weeks.
