Nottingham RC report from Head of the Soar
Nottingham Rowing Club sent six crews, racing in five categories, to Loughborough’s Head of the Soar on 29th November and won all five. The race was over 3000m on the twisty River Soar, raced in misty and cold conditions and attracted crews from right across the East Midlands’ clubs, from Peterborough to Doncaster.
Nottingham’s women took the Women’s S4 quadruple sculls, while Ed Fisher took the J16 single sculls and was the fastest single sculler overall, beating the S1 single winner by four seconds. The intermediate men, coxed and coached by Jo Baldwin, won in the S4 coxed fours category. The intermediate women, coxed and coached by Nicky Ranoe, won the Women’s Novice coxed fours and Women’s Novice coxed quadruple sculls categories. Three of the scullers in the winning novice quad, Jo Hallam, Ruth Hyde and Netty Cox, had only started rowing this summer.
Coaches Mark Cooke and Mike Fay agreed that it was an excellent performance by all the Nottingham crews.
